Beginning Band
In beginning band, you will be introduced to all things woodwind, brass, and percussion! You will learn the elements of music such as rhythm, expression, musicianship, in addition to learning how to play your instrument. The ensemble is made up of a variety of instruments including: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. There is something for everyone and no experience is necessary! If you join beginning band, you will have the opportunity to perform at MPH, Rim High School, and compete with other bands from around the county!
Advanced Band
Advanced Band is MPH's audition-only, advanced band ensemble. Students must demonstrate musical excellence and extreme dedication to the music department in order to be a part of this ensemble. The advanced band attends local parades and band festivals in addition to the concerts and football game that the beginning band will attend.
Music appreciation is a great class for students who want to learn about music, but do not have the time or interest in a traditional ensemble-style class. After taking this class, students will be able to read music, identify all orchestral instruments, discover historical and cultural backgrounds for various genres of music, as well as how to listen to and analyze music. The specific curriculum of the class varies from year to year depending on the interests of the group so it can be taken over again or can be a great primer for an ensemble class. All ability levels and interests are welcome.
