Page: VOE Newsletter for December 8th 1hrought 12th: Join the Efforts to Ensure School Safety. Keeping students safe while they learn is a top priority for schools and families. Schools are taking a range of safety measures, including staff training, visitor monitoring, and helping students learn to express anger appropriately. You can help ensure safety by encouraging your child to get to know all school staff members, not just classroom teachers. This way, your child will recognize strangers who don't belong at school and also know whom to turn to for help.
Here are some other important ways families can help:
1) Give the school the names of all the adults authorized to pick up your child.
2) Reinforce that your child should tell an adult immediately if they see something that doesn't seem right on the bus or at school.
3) Volunteer to join school and family groups that are addressing safety
4) Get to know your child's friends and their families.
Good friendships and a sense of common purpose among students, teachers, and neighbors make schools and neighborhoods safer.
Comin' Up is listed on the schedule. Rooted Together: a community-centered initiative designed to strengthen and uplift local families by promoting positive values, emotional resilience, and connection through inclusive messaging. Month-December. Value/Viture is Safety. Our Focus Area Description: Respecting Personal Space, asking for help, Protecting self and others, Weekly Focus Points are: Keep hands to self, use calm voices, ask for help, respect boundaries, and practice hygiene.

Page: Winter Driving Tips-Winter driving in our snow-capped mountains can be beautiful—but also challenging. The California Highway Patrol reminds families to be prepared and stay safe on the roads. Winter Driving Reminder: As snow and fog move into our mountain communities, please allow extra travel time, drive slowly, and keep headlights on. Staying alert and prepared helps keep all our students, families, and staff safe on the roads. Before You Go:
Ensure brakes, wipers, defroster, heater, and tires are in good condition. Top off antifreeze and use a winter-safe windshield washer solution.
Always carry tire chains that fit your vehicle, along with a flashlight. On the Road:
Allow extra time—winter travel is slower, and keep your gas tank full.
Drive slowly, avoid sudden stops, and leave extra space between vehicles.
Watch for icy spots, especially on bridges and in shady areas.
Keep windows clear, and use your defroster to prevent fogging.
If visibility is poor, slow down and look out for snowplows.
If you become stuck, stay with your vehicle and conserve fuel safely.
Helpful extras: ice scraper, small shovel, broom, sand/burlap for traction, towel, water, snacks, warm clothes, and blankets. Chain Requirements:
R1: Chains required; snow-tread tires allowed.
R2: Chains required except for 4WD with snow tires.
R3: Chains required on all vehicles (rare; roads usually close before R3). Staying prepared helps keep all us
mountain families safe this winter!
